A Culinary Journey from Hayfield

Hello there, please let me introduce myself. I’m Stephen Williams, I live in a very nice village in the High Peak called Hayfield.  The name for my website drives from the area I live in and the surrounding area of Kinder Scout.

More about me,

I was born in 1971 in Greater Manchester and grew up in Marple, where my love of food began in my dad’s kitchen. Some of my earliest memories are of watching him cook while we had the TV on, taking in all the great cookery programmes of the time. That mix of hands-on learning and inspiration stuck with me — and it never really left.

Cooking and baking have been constants throughout my life. I love all cuisines, but if I had to choose a go-to dish, it would be a proper, hot, authentic curry. I’ve been lucky enough to travel, meet incredible chefs along the way, and pick up tips, techniques, and shortcuts that only come from real kitchens and real experience.

Baking has always been just as important to me as cooking. That passion eventually led me to the School of Artisan Food in Welbeck, where I completed a sourdough course — an intense, inspiring experience that deepened my understanding of bread, fermentation, and craft.

At home, food has always been about family. I have three sons — Ben, Tim, and Alex — and the kitchen has long been the heart of our home. Today, cooking remains my way of creating, remembering, and sharing something meaningful.

This site is a reflection of that journey: honest food, hard-earned knowledge, and a lifelong love of cooking and baking.
